Breakfast-
Vision protocol smoothie
Yogurt (homemade, plain) with juice from canned peaches
Scrambled eggs and sausage with cheese melted over top
Cup of coffee

Home-canned SF peaches

Cheese
Veggies and dip
Banana bread (It's gone now. Lol)
Supper-
Mashed potatoes
Beef steak
Lettuce salad - lettuce, spinach, onion, avocado, olives, cheese, bacon ranch dressing
The sky this evening is aglow and a picture does not do it justice but the landscape is beautiful anyway. The clouds had a "bubble" look to them.

On the one side of this tree the clouds were sweeping and the other side had bubbly clouds. From my perspective, that is.

Would you have any teeth left if you didn't have a dentist? Sugar became popular when Queen Elizabeth was reigning. Reports are that sugar was only available to royalty or the rich at that time. But their teeth rotted from it.

Queen Elizabeth reportedly had black teeth and wouldn't smile. The only thing a "dentist" did in those days was pull your teeth.

Sugar and grains take tooth and bone health downhill. A recommended book to read is Cure Tooth Decay by Ramiel Nagel.

*Thomas and I have been doing the eye protocol together. It has been difficult because he's gone at noon and if we do it morning and evening, I need to get it done before he leaves for work. Somehow it's harder to accomplish this way. Then he'll be gone for a couple days and we really get off course. We're trying to get back on it now....

Exposé on grains...

Often when I say I eat no grains, people look at me like I'm crazy. "Why not?" they ask. "Grains are healthy." "Grains are Biblical."

Okay, okay. Maybe you're right. Maybe you're not. Again, do your own research.

Cereal boxes tout "Grains for heart health" slogans. Recently someone told of a friend who had a non-fatal heart attack. His Dr told him, "You're eating too many grains." Hmmm...

Have you eaten grains without sugar? Very often if you eat a grain you will be eating sugar with it. (A correction from yesterday- there are a very few cereals that have no sugar listed in the ingredients. Grape Nuts® and plain shredded wheat are two that I know of.)

Yes, grains were eaten in the days of yore. But do you think they were eaten in excess as they are today? Do you think Jesus had a bagel and/or a bowl of cereal for breakfast, noodles and a sandwich for lunch, and pizza for supper?

If you had to raise all the grain you eat, would you eat what you eat today? (In the same vein, what about sugar?)

Grains are best for you if they are sprouted or soaked. Otherwise they deplete your body of nutrients. Have you ever thought about what the yeast was that was used in Bible times? Was it little packets of brown grit?

No, they soaked their grains and pulled the yeast from the air. Today we call it sour dough bread. It always was a puzzle to my little, modern, American mind why the Israelites had no time to raise their bread when leaving Egypt (Exodus 12:34). Now it makes sense.

Today we are faced with several dilemmas concerning grains. Corn has been genetically modified (GMO) and there is nothing you can do to make it good. Oats have been heat treated and soaking them does no good because they're dead.

Both corn and oats can be found that are raised correctly if you search for it. But they won't be on your regular store shelves. Everything you find there, pulls from your health and adds nothing to it.

Wheat is the big, bad guy. No hope here, unless you find someone who raises the ancient grains and stores them without chemicals. (I found someone in CA. The cost of shipping is sky high.)

Wheat is not genetically modified per se. GMO wheat is illegal in the USA. But it has been greatly hybridized to get the highest amounts of gluten for soft, fluffy baked goods. This contributes to the gluten intolerance epidemic.

Gluten intolerance is maybe not what it's cracked up to be though. People who suffer from supposed gluten intolerance in our country can travel to Europe and consume wheat there with no problem. So now what?

Wheat in our country is laden with chemicals. Much of it is sprayed with Round-Up® (glyphosate) prior to harvest. Then it is sprayed with chemicals for storage. All this is "necessary" for the mass production of wheat that is "needed" here.

Do your research on what glyphosate does to you. I find that even sprouted wheat products labeled "Organic" are problematic for me. My Doctor says that even supposedly organic wheat is stored with chemicals. Sigh...

Here's one article of many you can find on the web. Guess who manufactures Round-Up®. And guess who fights anyone who tries to ban it. Monsanto! Go figure.

Sometimes I wish there would be a mass effort to change growing and storage methods. Like everyone would just not eat wheat until something changes. It seems like the epidemic proportions of gluten intolerance/allergy would wake someone up.

Wishful thinking.....

The rest of this is a sermon on the dangers of sugar.....

Stephen has been reading or hearing something about how food can keep you from being anxious. He says eat a big breakfast whether you want to or not. It will reduce your anxiety.

This could be especially true if you consume sugar. Eating sugar wreaks havoc on your blood sugar. You think you are hungry before you really are because sugar is burned up so fast and then your system is yelling, "Give me more!"

So you keep stuffing in more sugar. What happens? Weight gain, naturally. Carbs (enter grains) are a form of sugar so even if you aren't eating sugar per se, the same effect is there. You stay hungry, you eat more, you gain weight. Unless you're one of those lucky people who can burn it as fast as they eat it.

White sugar is an unnatural substance and causes your body to produce unnatural amounts of insulin. This in turn wears down your body's overall defenses and wears down one organ after another. Your pancreas gets worn out from producing insulin. Your adrenals are worn down; as well as your thyroid. Your heart will likely go next. It's a domino effect.

Sugar is very nearly like heroin in its ability to create addiction. Think over your day. Did your morning hot drink contain sugar? What about the yogurt you had for breakfast? Did you eat cereal?

Some people say of frosted flakes or similarly sugar-coated cereals, "I don't need sugar with this cereal." My friend, every cereal is loaded with sugar, whether you see it or not. Look at the ingredients.

Did you eat sugar-laden canned fruit? Ketchup (it has more sugar than ice cream!)? Barbecue sauce? Mayonnaise? Lunch meat? Ham? Or jam?

Those are things where sugar is maybe more hidden. We eat them without thinking of the sugar we consume. But what about the cake, cookies, candy or donut you had today?

If you're not thinking, the amount of sugar you consume is phenomenal. Now try doing without. Try it!

We did a sugar fast as a family a few years ago and it took me at least six months to be able to go by the dessert spread at a church dinner and not be tempted.

Recently Stephen's accountability group did without sugar for one month. One of the guys was heard to say a number of times, "I can hardly wait till May 1st! I'm going straight to get me a Dunkin Donut!" What does that tell you about addiction?

My neighbor works with recovering drug addicts and they are not allowed to eat sugar because it too closely simulates the drugs they are trying to get free from.

It is so nice to be on the other side of the addiction! "Good" desserts don't even tempt me at all! I couldn't have said that a few years ago, that's for sure! It takes grit and determination to overcome.

It also helps to be educated. Read Mr Robinson's philosophy (Sugar Addiction) about sugar and intellect. (Or listen to him. Jump to about 1:40:00 if you want to just hear what he says about sugar.) This man is a scientist and has done his research.

Just in case you won't read or listen to him, I love the story he tells, about when he kept a pack of cookies for himself though he allowed his children none. He found that his cookies were disappearing and his heart sank. One of his children had developed an addiction and was stealing his cookies.

After questioning them all, they all denied eating his cookies. Then his older son stepped forward and confessed. He was throwing them away. He said, "Dad, you are so irritable when you eat cookies!"

A disclaimer if you listen to all of the video... I don't agree with all Mr Robinson's philosophy, as I believe children develop better mentally, especially at a young age, with a lot more action. But most of what he says about education is spot on, in my opinion.

Back to sugar- Have you ever thought about why cancer is so prevalent these days? Do your research!

Scrambled eggs and sausage with salsa
Plain yogurt with honey
Cup of coffee

Garden lettuce salad containing tomato, onion, cucumber and cheese with bacon Ranch dressing
Handful of raisins and pecans (Because I'm so hungry! I had to wait for my soup to thaw...)
Chili soup
Cheese
Supper-
Hamburger
Lettuce
Cheese
Tomato
Onion
Mustard

Some time ago I had gone off of all grains. I felt so much better. Any excess weight dropped off. My hair improved. My voice cleared up. My energy levels increased. I don't remember what all improved but it was a real improvement.

Then I started adding back the grains that didn't give me immediate pain, i.e. stomach pain, gas, bloating. Wheat is one of those non-touchables. Results are immediate and painful.

Corn, spelt and oats are not quite so painful, but lately I've been so weary and having a lot more gas and bloating. My sister wanted to see if going off dairy makes a difference for her (weight loss) so we made a pact to help one another with our goals.

Both dairy and grains are huge components in our American diet. It is difficult to find much of anything to eat at any type of gathering that doesn't contain these things.

To help us stick to it, we imposed a penalty of making a meal for the other one's family. That's a pretty big call. No cheating here!

We began May 1st and I can report a much happier and calmer gut. Hopefully, if you feel the need to cut out grains, these food diaries will help you see what else there is to eat.

Sugar Free, Grain Free Food Diary

Day 1
Breakfast-
Plain yogurt with honey
Half banana

Lunch-
Potatoes with kale and bacon
Black beans and bratwurst
Spinach, apple, pear and walnut salad

Supper-
Black beans and bratwurst
Sour cream
Cabbage salad (made with lemon juice, garlic salt and cumin)
Apple with peanut butter
Half banana

Some people say, "But what do you eat?" when they hear that I eat no sugar or grains. One family member even went so far as to ask incredulously, "What do you do for fun?" As though we live to eat rather than eating to live! There are still plenty of good foods.

For all who wonder what to eat, I will attempt a food diary for a week. It might be difficult as I'm ultra busy right now but I'm going to try. It should be a simple thing to do.

I wasn't feeling so well today so I ate less than I do sometimes. And the peanut butter, bacon and bratwurst may have some sugar in them. I'm not being super strict about  the minimal sugar in some foods. I hope that doesn't mislead someone.

The black beans are linked to a recipe. This recipe has the seasonings I used. The rest of the family ate the beans on rice.
